You must watch Cowboy Bebop at all cost !
Dear Reader, I hope you had a wonderful July that ended just yesterday. Hope that August will bring much more calm and peace amidst the chaos. Well, I have my chai ready here. If you have one at your side I think we are all set to go
Thats right. I had to put in the heading to get your attention. I watched Cowboy Bebop last week and I believe it is the greatest anime series ever created. Yes, I know I know. Dragon Ball Z is still my favorite but for all personal reasons. But Cowboy Bebop ! I mean wow. The music still lingers in my mind. The jazz with the saxophone, drums and beats . I never ever thought that an anime would be my gateway to Jazz. Now that I think of it , the entire Cowboy Bebop plays off as a music album that you can listen again and again. So fitting to call each episode ( or movie as per the Director). The characters are so fresh and so realistic even when the series is set in the 2070s. Spike Spiegel may be my second most favorite character ( Sorry Goku is burnt into my soul to be the favorite).
Let us talk about the music straightway. I think this is one series where I watch everything in the episode including the opening theme(Tank!), ending theme(The Real Folks Blue) and the previews. The opening is dynamic , so full of twists and turns. You feel you have transported to a time where everything is an adventure and no way you wouldn’t be thrilled by journey. I mean listen here
The end theme “Real Folks Blue” is my current soundtrack of life. And believe me it will hit you like anything after the last episode. The last episode will make you feel like you lost something and you feel a hollow part inside your heart. This song will fill that empty part and make you realize “Whatever happens, happens”.
And of course this gem. “Green Bird” that plays during the confrontation between Spike and Vicious, two cutthroat rivals formerly teammates. The entire song showed their relationship more than an entire episode ever could. If you keep this song playing continuously, you will realize Spike falling endlessly in time. Green Bird single handedly made “Ballad of Fallen Angels” as the greatest episode within Cowboy Bebop universe.
Another piece that I would highly recommend and one of the most pieces to listen
I talked so much about the music because to be honest, these songs have been sustaining me all last week. I really thank Yoko Kanno to create this wonderful Bebop along with Shinichirō Watanabe ( of course many others including the amazing voice actors). Ed is based on Yoki Kanno. Hope that will help you
I really want to write a lot about Cowboy Bebop. I want to talk about the characters . The friendship of Jet and Spike, Faye Valentine and the the character that will will be face of humanity of the future, Edward! Believe me I would pour down my heart about Cowboy Bebop but I believe one small article can’t justify the phenomenon that is Cowboy Bebop. I will have to carry the weight for some more time. Leaving below are some of the words from the series that really brightened my days.
Once upon a time, in New York City in 1941… at this club open to all comers to play, night after night, at a club named “Minston’s Play House” in Harlem, they play jazz sessions competing with each other. Young jazz men with a new sense are gathering. At last they created a new genre itself. They are sick and tired of the conventional fixed style jazz. They’re eager to play jazz more freely as they wish then… in 2071 in the universe… The bounty hunters, who are gathering in the spaceship “BEBOP”, will play freely without fear of risky things. They must create new dreams and films by breaking traditional styles. The work, which becomes a new genre itself, will be called… COWBOY BEBOP
“They say hunger is the best spice.” — Spike Spiegel
“Men only think about the past right before their death, as if they were searching frantically for proof that they were alive.” — Jet Black
“I’m not going there to die. I’m going to find out if I’m really alive.” -Spike Spiegel
“Do not fear Death. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But, if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently and then guides us into infinity.”
-Laughing Bull
“I felt like I was watching a dream I’d never wake up from. Before I knew it, the dream was all over.”
-Spike Spiegal
“Everything has a beginning and an end. Life is just a cycle of starts and stops. There are ends we don’t desire, but they’re inevitable. We have to face them. It’s what being human is all about.”
-Jet Black
“You were always there for me, and that’s all I needed. Just you. For some reason, I didn’t feel sad or broken up, it just didn’t seem real. But slowly I realized it was real — that you were gone. And little by little, I slowly felt something inside me go numb.”
-Jet Black
“Humans were meant to work and sweat for their money after all. Those that try to get rich quickly or live at expense of others — all get divine retribution along the way. That is the lesson. But, one thing about humans is that they quickly forget the lesson they have learnt.”
-Jet Black
And of course my favorite among them all

Hope you give Cowboy Bebop a view. You will never regret this decision ever in your life!
